Dusk over a desert canyon. This Onyx palm stone glows a smoky lavender-pink, broken up by bands and swirls of golden yellow, cream and pale olive green that run through the center like layers of sediment. Rusty red veins cross the bands, and the edges keep a soft translucence when held up to the light. It’s smooth, full and weighty in the hand.

Onyx is the stone for seasons that ask more of you than you feel you have: the long project, the hard week, the stretch where you just have to keep showing up. It’s prized for strength and stamina, and for helping you keep your own counsel instead of getting swept up in everyone else’s urgency. A classic for self-mastery, it supports wise decisions and the follow-through to see them land. On the mystical side, it’s traditionally used to absorb and transform heavy energy and to connect with memories carried from past lives. The name comes from the Greek onyx, “fingernail”: in myth, Cupid trimmed Venus’s nails while she slept and the gods turned the clippings to stone. The softly banded pastel “onyx” of Pakistan is a banded calcite, loved by carvers for its glowing, translucent layers.
