Afghanite is a rare, complex mineral. Ranging in color from light sky blue to dark navy, Afghanite can also appear colorless and transparent and have hues of pink. Discovered in 1968 by R. Giraud, F. Cesbron, and P. Bariand, it was named after the country of origin, Afghanistan, specifically the Badakhshan region in the northeast.
